For the Sunflowers (II)

If the sun is an intoxicant - as surely is true -- the sunflower is the greatest of revelers - sipping decorously through June and July but then letting go with abandon come the first weeks of August.


Forgive them father
These jumbling towers
That know not what they do
Gripped by the sun's power
They make a clamorous bower
Both recto and verso askew
