Song for the Sunflowers

August 1st, already Sunflower Season is upon us.  The first of our garden beauties reared its head last week only to be quickly mowed down, in sacrifice to the kosen-rufu, yet another hero has quickly risen to take its place.

Blossoming everywhere

A hollow vessel

Through which

All summer is passing

Up to your brain stem
Petals in no way retractile

Unfurl in such furious beauty
