A Poem Composed While Traveling Downstream at Night (by Du Fu)
A light breeze stirsThe shoreline's slender grassAlone on the open waterIn a boat with a single mastThe stars hang pendantAnd seem on a levelWith the earth's broad expanseAnd the moon in its vastnessAppears to rise out of the river'sSwift current just aheadIf only fame could be gainedFrom ink and a brushOr a sinecure obtainedTo provide shelter in sicknessAnd old ageBut instead here I amSkimming downstreamProceeding to places unknownBetween Heaven and EarthLike a sandpiper glidingAlong the water's edge
